Meditation and Chanting, with Seth Castleman and Sheila
Katz
Monday night classes include a 45 minute silent sitting meditation
(hitbodedut) with brief instructions. A short break is followed
by a teaching; occasional discussion and question & answers;
and a closing meditation.
The practice, drawing from different Jewish sources, develops
basic da-at (awareness) meditation, focusing on ruach (breath),
guf (body), and chasiva (mind). Chesed meditation (lovingkindness)
and chanting are also integrated.
Class is appropriate for experienced as well as beginning meditators
and for people from all backgrounds and levels of Jewish observance.

CONTEMPLATIVE SHABBATS |
AUGUST 6 CONTEMPLATIVE SHABBAT
HAS BEEN POSTPONED.
Nishmat Hayyim will be having our first contemplative Shabbat
Shacharit service this fall, with davenning, chanting, meditation,
and Torah.

Awareness of Breath as a Gateway
to God

Renowned Conservative movement Rabbi, teacher, author, and meditation
teacher will give a class on Jewish meditation.
Program will include sitting meditation, movement meditation,
and a participatory study of a commentary by Rebbe Nachman on
Genesis 1 and 2, in which he explores the Breath and our awareness
of it as a bridge to the transcendent.
Rabbi Lew will also be signing his new book, Be Still And Get
Going: A Jewish Meditation Practice For Real Life.

The Breath of Life Jewish Meditation Center of New England cultivates
contemplative practice within the Jewish community
Nishmat Hayyim teaches programs in the Boston area,
as well as providing resources, support, and programs for Jewish
communities throughout New England.
Teachings and practices draw on a rich tradition of Jewish
texts, basic meditation techniques, and the humanity of daily
life.
All programs are open and accessible to people from all backgrounds,
from secular to halachically observant.
