Monday night classes include a 45 minute silent sitting meditation (hitbodedut) with brief instructions. A short break is followed by a teaching; occasional discussion and question & answers; and a closing meditation.

The practice, drawing from different Jewish sources, develops basic da-at (awareness) meditation, focusing on ruach (breath), guf (body), and chasiva (mind). Chesed meditation (lovingkindness) and chanting are also integrated.

Class is appropriate for experienced as well as beginning meditators and for people from all backgrounds and levels of Jewish observance.

CONTEMPLATIVE SHABBATS

Nishmat Hayyim will be having our first contemplative Shabbat Shacharit service this fall, with davenning, chanting, meditation, and Torah.
