Jan 15th in NY

10 Plays in 90 Minutes, Shomer Shabbat Theatre Company.
From: Yishai Freedman. allisvain@gmail.com

Hello Friends-
This this is Yishai Freedman. Most of you know me well, some of you I
have only met once and a few I have never met (but given you email in
confidence that we would get along).
For a few years now I have been threatening to start some type of
theatre community for Halakhically engaged Jewish folk. In conjunction
with some great people in Baltimore, we are producing a one page play
festival and you are all invited to participate.
First things first, we are looking for plays that are one page long.
The only restrictions are that it be no longer than a page long and
that it be appropriate for "frum" audiences and actors, what ever that
might mean. Be daring, be bold, push boundaries and do in a page.
We intend to produce these plays so we also need actors, directors,
designers, stage managers, musicians, magicians dancers etc.
This is a great way connect with other Jewish artists and have a good
time.

Feb 12 Tu Bishevat Seder at Elat Chayyim:
for directions, times and other info: (800) 398-2630
http://www.jewishretreatcenter.org/about/

Celebrate the Trees' New Year at Elat Chayyim!

On the full moon between solstice and equinox, we come together to ask
for cosmic blessing, using the seder of the Tree of Life as our guide.

The Tu Bishevat moon signals the New Year for the Trees, and in
Kabbalah, the New Year for the Cosmic Tree that sustains the universe.
Kabbalists believe that we open up the channels of blessing on this
night by eating fruit with the right intention in each of the four
worlds. We also come together honor abundance, freedom, and
biodiversity, and to commit ourselves to transform society and to
recreate Judaism by connecting to the earth. Using teachings, songs,
and poems, Rabbi David Seidenberg will lead us in bringing in the New
Year with prayers and song for the trees and for the planet.

Join us in the beautiful setting of Elat Chayyim Retreat Center in
Accord NY for this journey along the path of the Tree of Life. Come
for a delicious vegetarian dinner and seder, or for lunch and the
whole afternoon.

$30 for dinner & seder (sliding scale to $20)
$45 for lunch and an afternoon at Elat Chayyim (including an optional study
session)

For all our relations, for the holiness of creation, for our future.

Rabbi David Seidenberg has been teaching Torah of the earth for over
twenty years, and is one of the foremost scholars working on Judaism
and ecology today. David wrote a doctorate on ecology and Kabbalah at
the Jewish Theological Seminary, and was ordained both at JTS and by
Reb Zalman Schachter-Shalomi. He teaches throughout North America on
Kabbalah, Talmud, Chasidut and Jewish thought. Along with his
teaching, David leads davening
and nigunim, and founded what may have been the first "Chasidishe
Egalitarian" minyan (check out David's website on Chasidic song at
www.neohasid.org). Rabbi David's writing appears in Trees, Earth and
Torah, Torah of the Earth, This Sacred Earth, and the new Encyclopedia
of Religion and Nature, and on the web at www.coejl.org,
www.shalomctr.org and www.ohalah.org. He and his family live in Los
Angeles.

Jewish Wisdom Circles:

CLAL - The National Jewish Center for Learning and Leadership:
Conversations That Matter
How can we enhance our capacity to talk and think together more deeply about the critical issues facing our lives, our communities, our organizations, our nations, and our planet?

Refreshments will be served.
Stimulates volunteer, professional and rabbinic leadership to build responsive
Jewish communities across North America.
Helps individuals to imagine new Jewish possibilities.
Promotes inclusive Jewish communities in which all voices are heard.
Convenes interdisciplinary seminars that explore the Jewish and American futures.
Enhances Jewish participation in civic and spiritual life in North America.

We would like to invite you to join us for a special conversation called the Jewish
Wisdom Circle. The Wisdom Circle is simply a very powerful dialogue for fostering constructive conversations, accessing collective intelligence/wisdom and creating
innovative possibilities for action in our world.
This is a moment of opportunity. We are connected as never before in webs of communication and information-sharing through the Internet and other media that
make our collective predicament visible on a much larger scale than we could have
imagined only a few years ago. And for the first time, we now have the capacity for engaging in connected global conversations and actions about what is happening and how we choose to respond.
Our very survival as a human community and a Jewish community, both locally and globally, may rest on our creative responses to questions such as:
How can we access the mutual wisdom we need to create innovative paths forward?

Fall 2005 in Jerusalem

ECO-ACTIVIST BEIT MIDRASH

I am very excited to let you know about a fantastic new program set to
launch, G-d willing, Fall 2005 in Jerusalem. The "Eco-Activist Beit
Midrash," a project of Sukkat Shaleym Inc., will be the first learning
center focused on truly integrating modern day ecological activism and
traditional Jewish teachings concerning the environment.

Program participants will spend 3 days a week learning texts; and 2 days a
week hiking, volunteering, and contributing in the field to the work of
organizations addressing a wide range of environmental issues in Israel.
Students will visit problem sites, work alongside local activists, and learn
to examine and integrate the spiritual and practical dimensions of issues
such as land use, pollution, bio-diversity, consumerism, and environmental
responsibility. Coursework in pedagogy, certification coursework in either
permaculture design or outdoor guiding skills, and opportunities to initiate
programs in local communities will all prepare students for Judaism as a
resource and guide in organizing ecological programming to improve the world
around them.

This is a very special program and we are seeking students who already have
a background in environmental and/or social activism. Classes will be taught
in English. All traditional texts will be utilized in Hebrew and/or Aramaic
with translations provided where necessary. Prospective students need not
have any Hebrew language skills.

We are looking for twelve highly motivated activists interested in exploring
what their tradition has to offer the environmental movement. If you or
anyone you know might be interested, or if you have any questions please
feel free to contact us at: shulim26@actcom.co.il by phone: 02-622-1456 or

Gift Yourself a Hanukkah in Israel
December 25, 2005- January 5th, 2006

Dear Beit Miriam Subscribers, Because the first Beit Miriam trip to Israel was so much fun, so amazing on so many levels, I could not leave Israel without planning another trip or two. Leading trips to Israel is now my passion, and my deepest joy. I believe it is so very important for Jews and non- Jews to have a direct physical connection to Israel. A person can have all kinds of thoughts and feelings about Israel but it is only when you are there that you can really have an inkling of what is really happening. Everyone owes it to themselves to visit Israel at least once if not many times in their lifetime. Israel is a holy holy land. Being there is really amazing. Israel is the soul of the Jewish people, the promised land and you will not know what that means unless you are there. I promise you that on these Beit Miriam trips you will have entrée into the soul of Israel in a very powerful way. These upcoming trips will allow for more time to enter into the heart of Jerusalem with expanded opportunities for deeper learning and meditation. Please share this email with your friends and email lists. Thank you so much in supporting others in sharing this information Love and blessings, Mindy Ribner

If you or
anyone you know might be interested, or if you have any questions please
feel free to contact us at: shulim26@actcom.co.il by phone: 02-622-1456 or
check out our website www.shlomoyeshiva.org/eco
